‘I bet I can throw the ball faster and further than you can’. It was a sentence that I’ve heard all throughout my childhood years. I never won at those kinds of competitions, but maybe things would have been different if I only paid more attention in Physics class. The Magnus effect is the commonly observed effect in which a spinning ball curves away from its principal flight path. As you can imagine, the Magnus effect is important in many ball sports.
