Dementia is a disease that not only affects the person diagnosed but also his/her entire family and close friends. Unfortunately, it’s a widespread condition. In fact, there are approximately 5.4 million Americans who suffer from some sort of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
One of those people is Molly Daley. Her son Joe is the main caretaker, so he is the one who knows first-hand how destructing and devastating it is to watch someone you love suffer from dementia.
To help others who might be going through the same things he is going through as he takes care of his mom, the man started a video series depicting the he ups and downs of his mother’s disease.
The woman suffers from an aggressive form of dementia called Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), which means her condition gets worse and worse in a progressive manner. Every day comes with its own set of challenges, but some days are particularly hard.
The video below was taken on one of those days. Joey appropriately titled the episode, “The Worst Day of My Life.”
“This day I will never forget. When your mother doesn’t know who you are, she knows my name but doesn’t know who I am. I tried so hard to get her to say who I was…. but she just doesn’t know. I feel like she just died. I wasn’t expecting this,” wrote the man about that day.
There’s no way you can watch this without getting tears in your eyes. So sad.
