Straight No Chaser (SNC) is the name of a capella vocal group for men, from the University of Indiana. The group is made up of 10 to 12 licensed people, former members of univesity. In 2006, they gained popularity with the video “12 Days of Christmas” and subsequently led to a five-album deal with Atlantic Records in 2008. The YouTube video has been visited more than 13 million times.
The group was formed in 1996 at Indiana University in Bloomington. The 10 students – Dan Ponce (founder), Randy Stine, Charlie Mechling, Steve Morgan, Jerome Collins, Dave Roberts, Walter Chase, Mike Itkoff, Patrick Hachey and Kevin Caroll became Straight No Chaser. Their name was inspired by the title track of Thelonious Monk album in 1967.
